About this seal

No Canadian corporation statute requires a company to have a stamp or a corporate seal — under the Canada Business Corporations Act and the provincial acts a corporation may adopt a seal but does not need one, and contracts are binding through the signature of an authorized person. Stamps are still ordered because they are fast and tidy: they put the legal name, address and CRA Business Number on an invoice, delivery slip or form in one stroke. The BN is a nine-digit number issued by the Canada Revenue Agency; program accounts add a two-letter code and four digits, so a GST/HST account reads 000000000 RT0001.

Common uses

  • Invoices, quotes and delivery slips that need the BN and GST/HST number
  • Bank forms and corporate account paperwork
  • Customs, export and supplier onboarding documents
  • Letters and forms that ask for a company stamp

How to create it

  1. Open the template — the rectangular stamp layout is pre-applied.
  2. Replace SAMPLE INC. with your registered legal name.
  3. Edit the street address, city, province and postal code.
  4. Enter your Business Number and GST/HST account, then add a phone number if you want one.
  5. Export a transparent PNG, SVG or PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Canadian corporation need a company stamp or seal?

No. Federal and provincial corporate statutes allow a seal but do not require one. A stamp is optional and mostly used for convenience or when a bank or foreign counterparty asks for it.

What is a Business Number and how is it written?

The Business Number (BN) is a 9-digit identifier issued by the Canada Revenue Agency. A program account adds a 2-letter code and a 4-digit reference, for example RT0001 for GST/HST.

Should a Canadian company stamp be bilingual?

Outside Quebec, English-only is common. If you deal with federal bodies or French-speaking customers, add French lines with the bilingual company stamp preset. In Quebec, use the Quebec company stamp.

Legal & usage

Stamps render in your browser for design and demonstration; nothing you type is uploaded. A stamp is not required and adds no legal authority in Canada — the signature binds. Only show the BN and tax numbers of a business you are authorized to act for.
