About this seal

A UK company does not need a stamp or a common seal: since the Companies Act 2006 a company can execute documents by the signatures of its directors, and a rubber stamp adds no legal weight. Stamps are still ordered for practical reasons — some banks, export documents and overseas customers ask for a “company stamp and signature”, and a stamp is a quick way to put the company number, registered office and VAT number on paper. For the embossed corporate seal, see the corporate seal template.

Common uses

  • Bank mandates and forms asking for a company stamp
  • Export paperwork and overseas customer documents
  • Delivery notes, receipts and goods-in paperwork
  • Letters and forms that need the company number

How to create it

  2. Replace EXAMPLE LIMITED with your registered company name.
  3. Edit the registered office address and postcode.
  4. Enter your Companies House number and VAT number.
  5. Export a transparent PNG, SVG or PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does a UK limited company need a company stamp?

No. Neither a rubber stamp nor a common seal is required under the Companies Act 2006. Stamps are optional and mainly used when a bank or foreign counterparty asks for one.

What is the difference between a company stamp and a company seal?

A company stamp is an inked rubber stamp with the company's details. A company (common) seal is an embosser that presses the name into paper and was historically used to execute deeds.

What should a UK company stamp show?

The registered name, the registered office address, the company number and, if registered, the VAT number. A phone number or website is optional.

Legal & usage

Stamps render in your browser for design and demonstration. A stamp is not required and does not make a document binding in the UK; only show the company number and VAT number of a company you are authorised to act for.
