About this seal

The mitomein is a casual, unregistered hanko used for day-to-day acknowledgements: receiving parcels, stamping internal documents and confirming you have read a circular. It usually shows only the family name and, unlike the jitsuin or ginkoin, is not filed with any authority — so it carries no formal legal weight on its own but is convenient for routine use.

Common uses

  • Acknowledging deliveries and parcels
  • Internal circulars and read-receipts
  • Routine office forms and approvals
  • Everyday paperwork that does not need a registered seal

How to create it

  1. Open the template — the round mitomein layout is pre-applied.
  2. Enter the family name to appear on the seal.
  3. Choose Mincho for tradition or Gothic for a clean modern look.
  4. Keep a compact round frame typical of everyday seals.
  5. Export a transparent PNG or SVG.

Frequently asked questions

Does a mitomein have legal weight?

It is unregistered and informal, so it carries far less weight than a jitsuin. It is meant for routine acknowledgements, not major contracts.

What name goes on a mitomein?

Usually just the family name. Ready-made mitomein are even sold by common surname; the editor lets you set any name.
