About this seal

Notary rules differ across Canada. In British Columbia notaries public are a regulated profession, in Ontario and most common-law provinces lawyers act as notaries, and in Quebec the notaire is a separate civil-law legal professional with a different seal (see the Quebec notary preset in the editor). Many provinces do not require a seal at all — a signature, name and details of appointment are enough — while some regulators set wording or format. This template produces a clean design you can adapt to your province's wording.

Common uses

  • Layout for ordering a notary stamp or embosser
  • Drafting a notarial certificate block on a document
  • Training and example documents
  • Mock-ups for law-office stationery

How to create it

  1. Open the template — the round notary seal is pre-applied.
  2. Replace JANE A. DOE with the notary's name.
  3. Replace PROVINCE OF SAMPLE with your province.
  4. Change colour or font if your regulator specifies one.
  5. Export a transparent PNG, SVG or PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Canadian notary have to use a seal?

It depends on the province and the document. Many provinces require a signature and statement of office rather than a seal, but some regulators prescribe wording or format. Check yours.

Is a Quebec notaire the same as a notary public elsewhere?

No. A Quebec notaire is a civil-law legal professional who drafts authentic deeds; the seal and rules differ, and the editor has a separate Quebec preset.

Legal & usage

Stamps render in your browser for design and demonstration. A generated image is not an official notarial seal: only a person appointed as a notary in their province may notarize, and each province sets its own seal requirements. Never use a seal you are not entitled to use.
