Compress a PDF
Make a PDF small enough to email or upload. Balanced keeps text crisp and photos clean at 150 DPI; Strong goes to 96 DPI for the smallest file. Compression runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded.
Steps
- 1
Add the PDF — or several, which are compressed together into one file.
- 2
Choose Balanced or Strong under Compress.
- 3
Download: the confirmation shows how much smaller the file became.
FAQ
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on what is inside. Scans and photo-heavy PDFs often shrink by half or more; text-only PDFs are already compact and change little. A file is never made bigger — an image is only replaced when the new version is meaningfully smaller.
Does compression blur the text?
No. Text and vector graphics are not touched. Only photographic images are downsampled, and screenshots or line art are converted only when they are far larger than the page needs.
Are bookmarks, links and form fields kept?
Yes. They are carried over, and so are the document's title and author.
